The unit's internal mechanism deposits the clumped waste into the pullout waste tray for easy disposal. The system works only with clumping litter, and the waste tray separates clumped waste from clean litter, so clean litter is never thrown away. The litter box makes it easy to provide the cat not only with a clean litter box, but also with privacy due to the covered pan design. Love the fact of no more inhaling the dust when scooping to clean. I must've gotten a really flawed one. After seeing such high reviews on this, I decided to purchase it. It worked great for the first few times. Then it started to not filter right. When I pulled out the tray, much clean litter along with the dirty litter filled it up completely. I dumped all litter out and figured the filter must have not fastened right. I reassembled the pieces and it worked fine again. Then after a few more times it started to fill up the tray again. Also, the litter started seeping out through the edges when I rolled even when I locked the locks. Now it's becoming a complete hassle as I end up with more mess than a regular litter box. I also think my cats are not very fond of it as the space for them to actually do their business is very cramped, especially when this is a hooded litter box. I ended up discarding this litter box and bought a larger hooded antimicrobial litter box and started scooping it everyday. It's actually not as much of a hassle as I thought it would be, and it's healthier for the cats anyway. As soon as I put the clumping litter in, Zeus dove in and started exploring. I was worried at first because it seemed like there wasn't going to be that much room for him but he loved it. He immediately "christened" the box and has been using it faithfully ever since. Emptying it was a breeze and it saves so much litter - I am definitely impressed! It is so clean and I don't even have to worry about wearing gloves or anything! There hasn't been any smell whatsoever from the box! That is the main reason I wanted it and it has been so easy to empty. I highly recommend this box to anyone who loves having a cat but hates the stinky cat box odor in the house b/c this box is great for controlling odors. 0 of 0 found this review helpful: Why didn't I think of that?, 2008-07-13 This is one of those products that is so easy to use, simple, and effective, it really makes you wonder "Why didn't I think of that?" The only real complaint I have is that it is diffucult to pour new litter straight out of the box into the litter box. I could kick myself for not buying it sooner. It is absolutely fantastic. Just roll the box to one side to clean and roll back to settle the litter, then pull the waste "drawer" out and empty. So simple, no mess. I would highly recommend this to anyone that hates scooping the cat litter box.
